Extracorporeal circulation (ECC) for ECLS

The extracorporeal circulatuion maintains the patient’s blood circulation and/or lung function outside the body.

Extracorporeal circulation (ECC) is used to maintain the patient’s blood circulation and/or lung function outside the body. With the aid of a support system like CARDIOHELP, oxygen-depleted blood is diverted out of the body and enriched with oxygen by passing it through an artificial lung (oxygenator), before being pumped back into the patient’s circulation for up to
six hours.
