CARDIOHELP: the mobile life support system for patient transport applications

MAQUET’s CARDIOHELP System is the first support system approved for transportation and for use both inside and outside the hospital environment.* It can be securely installed in any ambulance or helicopter and can be connected to the on-board power supply. The integrated rechargeable battery also provides 90 minutes of operation without an external power supply. The portable support system thereby assumes the function of the heart and/or lungs with extracorporeal life support (ECLS), ensuring that the patient receives adequate oxygen and has a stable circulation during inter- and intra-hospital transport (up to six hours).

In the development of the unit, special attention was devoted to ensure that the housing is well protected against impact, vibrations and water damage. Weighing about 22 lbs (not including disposables or gas supply), the CARDIOHELP System can be comfortably carried by the handle. For intra-hospital transport, the support system has a standardized mounting rail on its side, which enables the unit to be securely attached to the patient’s bed, a transport stretcher or a wall rail. The HLS Set including the HLS Module Advanced is secured to the CARDIOHELP support system for transport as a compact unit.

*The CARDIOHELP System complies with other national transportation regulations.
