The heart-lung machine (HLM) is a device that can support, or completely replace, the function of the heart and lungs for a limited period of time. It is mostly used during heart surgery, but smaller versions are also used for ECLS in intensive care units. A portable system like the CARDIOHELP System opens up completely new areas of application and treatment.
